MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the Lincoln Rifle Club currently stands at 885 members.  Of that number, 57 are Probationary members and 33 are Life members.

Invoices for renewals are generally mailed midmonth prior to the expiration date listed on you membership card.  Those folks renewing in August should have received their renewal notice no later than July 15th. If your expiration date is August 2008, and you have not received a renewal invoice, please take time to call or e-mail Club Headquarters.  It is your responsibility to keep your membership current.

Because Lincoln Rifle Club is a 100% NRA affiliated Club, it is important that you update your NRA expiration date if requested on your renewal invoice.

The Club can process MasterCard and Visa credit cards for payment.  A place at the bottom of your renewal invoice is provided for credit card information. All credit card information is destroyed once the transaction is completed.  Checks can be made out to “LRC”.  Send all correspondence to our Post Office Box 582, here in Lincoln 95648.

Club Headquarters is located at 620 Third Street, Suite 100-C, in downtown Lincoln. Office hours are generally 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  However, hours are flexible, and Headquarters can be open by appointment almost any time.  We can be reached via telephone at (916) 434-0308 or via e-mail at lincolnrc@sbcglobal.net.

KINETC ENERGY?

Margaret M(edit)

First, let me take a moment to thank Jim L(edit) for just about a gazillion years of dedicated service to the Lincoln Rifle Club as the editor of our newsletter, Kinetic Energy. Without this kind of dedication, our primary communication link would not have survived. Jim assumed the editor position from Bob R(edit), who since 1987 acted as editor using the pen name “quickdraw.”  If history serves me correctly, it was also Bob who gave our newsletter its name of Kinetic Energy. Both Jim and Bob continue to actively support our club in various capacities. Bob is a match director and recently, Jim has accepted a position within our club as the work assessment coordinator. He is working very hard in developing a uniform way of reporting and tracking our member’s work assessment participation.  Please join me in thanking Jim for his past service as our Kinetic Energy editor and pledge to work with him in his new role as participation chairperson.

Now, let me introduce myself. My name is Margaret M(edit) and I have been a member of the Lincoln Rifle Club for 4 years. I joined the club after being introduced to the sport of shooting by my sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jerry W(edit). They started me out slow by taking me to Ladies night and introducing me to Gary B(edit). Gary coached me in the safe handling of firearms, and encouraged me to participate in the .22 caliber pistol patches held at the indoor range during the winter months. I signed up and Bob R(edit) proved to be a very patient and encouraging match director. I finished the 2007 matches and look forward to this upcoming year’s events.

Recently, I was asked to assume the role of editor for the Kinetic Energy. My response was, “what is Kinetic Energy?” I was informed it is two things; first of all kinetic energy is, “the energy of motion, observable as the movement of an object, particle, or set of particles,” and second, and most important, kinetic energy is the name of the Lincoln Rifle Club newsletter. Having spent 33 years working for the Department of Justice and spending a large portion of that time writing, I agreed to take on the challenge. We have purchased new software to develop the newsletter and we will be reformatting the publication to reduce the number of pages for printing, without eliminating valuable member information. Also, we will be surveying our membership very soon to determine the level of interest in providing our newsletter electronically versus mailing. I look forward to assisting the club by continuing the quality level of communication set by Jim and previous editors.

If you would like to submit an article for publication, please send it to me electronically or via mail at: (edit) or (edit), CA  . My home phone number is (edit) if you have any questions.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Are you looking for a way to complete your work assessment while having the time of your life?  Friday, September 5th, at 0900 hours, at the Pavilion Building in McBean Park, the set up party begins.  We will be transforming the plain old room into a warm and friendly atmosphere for folks interested in Supporting Our Sport to gather, eat, play games, share stories, and win fantastic firearms and related merchandise.

We need folks to come out and help us set up, run, and clean up the event.  Please call Club Headquarters at (916) 434-0308, or e-mail to lincolnrc@sbcglobal.net and let us know that you will be available to help.  Volunteers are the key to success for events.  Please consider donating some of your time to the success of this fund raising event.

2009 Match Directors

The Range Committee has developed a simple process for Match Directors to use when requesting dates and facilities for their events in 2009.  A Match Application has been developed and is required for all events.  The applications are available at all monthly meetings and are also available by contacting Club Headquarters.

Fill out the application and submit it to the Range Committee prior to October 1, 2008.  Include as much information as possible so the Range Committee can make good decisions about the use of our facilities.

As always, a hearty thanks to all those volunteering to take on the responsibility of being Match Directors.  Without your participation and dedication to our sport, we could not support the variety of matches our members have come to enjoy.
