Range Committee Report Our new 25’ Flag Pole is up & our U.S. Flag is flying. Soon we will have 24 hour illumination. Thanks to all that volunteered to help install our flag pole. And just as important, thanks to all that donated money to pay the cost of Pole, Flag, and installation. We have received applications from two match directors for future club matches. Yes, this is a new requirement for all club matches. So get yours in early to be considered by your Range Committee. More work is being done by volunteers to complete the ADA requirements on the trap range, i.e. safety railings etc. A draft of a Work Assessment Policy has been forwarded from your Range Committee to our Board of Directors for their review. This draft took several hours of range committee time to develop. Many ideas more opinions and much discussion, but we finally agreed to submit our draft and are hopeful the board adopts this draft. Jim L(edit) was appointed by the board to oversee the operation of the work assessment policy once it is adopted. We have, tentatively, set aside the first Saturday of each month for a club work assessment day. This schedule is pending the approval of our board and we will advise you as soon as the board approves. Due to the time dedicated to the aforementioned item there is not much else to report. So until next month enjoy the various club matches or just take pleasure in the sport of shooting. Remember eyes and ears! |

The “A” Zone: LRC Practical Weapons Competition Don B(edit), Match Director The May and June matches were both historical for the Lincoln Rifle Club. We had 47 competitors for the May match; that’s almost twice what we had when the practical weapons competition started three years ago! Needless to say, the May shoot took quite a while to complete as we could only shoot two scenarios at a time. (We set a record of sorts by not getting out of there until almost 1730 hours.) Then, June 7 saw the first competition in the new shooting area, justly named “The Ormsby Practical Weapons Range” (note, it’s not a “Memorial” range, he’s just fine and dandy, thank you!) The new range is made up of four separate “bays”, or shooting areas. Bay #1 is the rifle bay and is 110 yards long and 50 to 75 feet wide; the other 3 are 75 yards deep and 50 feet wide, giving the practical weapons shooters lots of room to set up scenarios requiring lateral and forward movement. The new shooting area now allows us to have all four scenarios set up at the same time. The competitors are divided into four “squads” and each squad starts off at the bay/scenario that corresponds with their number. Shooters are then able to move by squad to the next bay/scenarios while their scores are being tabulated by our Master Scorekeeper, Jay K(edit). (He’s one of the hardest working guys out there!) As with any new venture, we had some growing pains with our first match (imagine herding cats) but the Practical Weapons Match Committee has addressed those issues and we should have everything ironed out for our July 5th match. Yes, you read that correctly, we’re shooting on the 5th! What a great way to celebrate our wonderful country’s birthday and the Supreme Court’s affirmation of something we all knew, the Second Amendment is about individual liberty, not militias!! Our July match is a 3-gun and I’m told our shooters will need lots of rifle ammo in addition to their handgun and shotgun ammo. They’ll also need plenty of water, shade and sunscreen. The July and August matches will be good tests for our shooters but remember, our military is fighting in places where they’d call 95 degrees “cool.” We had a goodly number of observers and visitors for the June match and encourage you all to come watch; you may wind up getting the bug and wanting to shoot with us too. We will be having a training class after the July match and this is a requirement if you haven’t had police, military or formal shooting school training, such as you’d receive at TFTT, Gunsite or Front Sight. I will be showing the optional video tape before our July meeting so plan to be there by 6 PM. We’ll either be in the main hall or at the indoor range, depending on which is open and available. I look forward to seeing lots more of you at our upcoming matches! |
