Text Box: I can’t help but think that one of the most beautiful sights in Lincoln is the view of our American Flag all lit up and flying in the breeze as the sun sets at the Dillman Range. We are so fortunate to be able to have the Dillman Range and the freedom to own and enjoy firearms.

But the Lincoln Rifle Club doesn’t stop at the Dillman Range. The Club’s Junior Program is gearing up to start again in September. The Club’s Junior Program is known for its excellence. Youngsters aged 8 to 18 are welcome to join up and receive coaching and instruction from NRA Certified Coaches and Club volunteers. The Program meets on Monday evenings. The Indoor Range (located in McBean Park) opens about 5:30 p.m. for registration and sign in. The cost for the program is only Text Box: $20.00 per year, with a small charge for ammunition. The Club owns rifles, jackets, gloves, eye and ear protection, scopes, mats, and all sorts of supporting equipment. Any or all of this equipment is available to registered members of the program. For the new shooters, “Ground School” is offered. This course instructs new shooters on safety, the parts of the rifle, shooting and sighting techniques, etiquette, and sportsmanship. More information about this program is available by calling Club Headquarters at (916) 434-0308.

I am looking forward to the Club’s big fund raising event on September 5, 2008, at the Pavilion Building in McBean Park. This fund raising dinner will be a great time and will provide the extra funding our Club needs for the Junior Program, maintenance of Text Box: the existing Dillman Range, and planning funds for our “future” Dillman Range. Everyone is feeling the “pinch” these days with raising prices. Our Club is no exception. Please plan to set aside a few dollars for our event. This is a fun way to raise the funds needed to preserve opportunities for the Junior Program as well as ensure the future of our shooting facilities. Please plan to be there!

I’ll be seeing you at the Dillman Range. Remember, you can call the Club Headquarters at (916) 434-0308 if you need to talk or share ideas.

Text Box: BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT
Text Box: The Club’s Board of Directors continues to work with the Long Range Planning Committee. As more information and opportunities present themselves relative to the long term health of the Club, the Board finds that it is imperative to be prepared to make decisions. This requires research, planning and just good old common sense.

As the committee provides information on opportunities, the Board struggles with the decision making. Convinced that the long term survival of the Lincoln Rifle Club depends on the evenText Box: tual relocation of the Dillman Range, the Board has instructed the Long Range Planning Committee to continue to pursue reasonable options.

The need for a Club Work Assessment Policy is also taxing the board’s creative thinking. The Board, working directly with the Range Committee, has reviewed several ideas to define and regulate our work assessment program. The appointment of Jim L(edit) as the Club’s first Work Assessment Coordinator (WAC) is a step in the right direction. Members Text Box: wishing to obtain information about available work assessment opportunities can contact Jim for current information. Also, project leaders needing volunteers can call Jim and let him know what, when, and where volunteers are needed.

The Board of Directors represents the membership with decision making for the good of the
Club. Please don’t hesitate to let us know what you are thinking.
