LRC Conventional Pistol Matches Begin!

Bob R(edit), Match Director

,November marks the start of the 11th season of the LRC Conventional Pistol Matches.  This season promises to be one of the best yet with some approved changes.  We will be separating these matches from the NRA matches and we will have a new third relay.  The matches will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays at the McBean Park Indoor Range, starting on November 12, 2008, and ending April 22, 2009.

Participation does not require a lot of equipment.  Qualifying firearms include .22 caliber pistols or revolvers, and as always, eye and ear protection are a must.  If you do not have a pistol or revolver, the club has two match grade pistols available on a first come first served basis (club ammo is required for use in the club firearms).

Each match will consist of 65 rounds fired from the 50 foot firing line.  Rounds fired will consist of sighting shots, slow fire, timed fire, and rapid fire volleys. Two shooting styles will be supported, including the NRA standard off hand standing position, and the second is our own “F” class which allows the shooter to use two hands. The season consists of 10 matches.  For those shooting in at least 6 matches, awards will be presented, Each match is limited to the first 27 members, over 18 years of age, that register.  No pre-registrations are allowed.

Cost for participation is a one-time $10.00 registration fee, and $5.00 nightly for each match that you shoot.  The range will open at 4:00 pm, for set-up and registration.  The first relay is at 5:00 pm, the second relay is at 6:00 pm, and the third relay will be held at 7:30 pm.

If you have any questions, please contact Match Director, Bob R(edit)  or club headquarters.

A Good Time Was Had By ALL

The Club’s first “Support Our Sport” fund raising dinner and auction was held on September 5th and everyone went home with a smile on their face.  The food, provided by Cow Camp Grill and Seasonings, was excellent and plentiful.  Everyone had all they could enjoy and then some.  The bar, hosted by Liquor Outlet, was well appreciated by the thirsty crowd.  “Exciting” is a modest term for the auction.  Our local auctioneer, Kevin O(edit), managed to raise over $5,000.00 on our “mostly donated” auction items that varied from Oliver P(edit) donation of meat processing, to an antique collection cigarette lighters, and a coveted American Flag that last flew in Iraq.  And who can forget the original signature on a one dollar bill of none other than Reggie Jackson.

The net profit came very close to $12,000.00 and one-third of that has been forwarded on to support our Junior Program.  We are hoping that these funds will keep our Advanced Junior Shooting Team traveling and competing this year.

SO, MARK THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR FOR NEXT YEARS “SUPPORT OUR SPORT” EVENT - Friday Night, August 28, 2009, 6:00 p.m., in the Pavilion Building right here in Lincoln.

What a great way to have good fun and support our club all at the same time!!

From the Editor—OLD GLORY

Margaret M(edit)

I recently purchased a new American flag and found that it came with a little handbook entitled, “Our Flag, How to Honor & Display it.”  Although I found the information most interesting, I was a bit perplexed that a publication such as this was needed to inform people of what I assumed was common knowledge.  As a young girl, I can remember learning about the flag in elementary school.  We recited the pledge of allegiance every day and it was a real honor to be chosen to lead the class.  I was sharing this memory with my children, when my son-in-law informed me that he remembers in the 4th grade, that flags were no longer present in the classrooms at his school.   In my new handbook, it states that the flag stands for all that we hold dear – freedom, democracy, government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It just amazes me that this had to be documented as an insert for people purchasing American flags.  Maybe we need to make this little handbook required reading for children in our school system.  NOTE:  According to my new handbook, if you wear a flag lapel pin it is properly worn on the left side, over your heart.   BE BOLD, SHOW THE COLORS!
