Range Committee Report Dan R(edit), Range Committee Chairperson Match applications for next season’s matches are being submitted to the Range Committee in record numbers. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone for complying with the new requirements and following the application procedures. For those who have not completed an application or submitted one on a modified form, please try to attend the Range Committee meeting on Nov 4th to insure that your match is considered for next season. Time is running out! In April of 2009, there will be 6 vacancies on the Range Committee. Six of the existing 15 member committee will term out. If you want to get more involved with the Lincoln Rifle Club, consider putting your name in the hat to become a member of the Range Committee. I can assure you that it is a great experience. You will have the opportunity to help make decisions that affect the future of our club. Our club needs fresh, young ideas. Ladies, please join in too. The Dillman Range has been maintained by many club members volunteering their time on work assessment days; and it shows! The range is in great shape, thanks to all who have helped. The 100 yard berm has been repaired, weeds have been removed, target stand pockets were cleaned and donated dirt has been delivered to our range. Scott O(edit) is moving the dirt into place as needed. Volunteers like these members display a sense of “membership” by working together for the common good of our club. We need more TEAM players, so get off your duff and volunteer! Remember eyes and ears!! |

The “A” Zone: LRC Practical Weapons Competition Don B(edit), Match Director Well, it’s been a while since we’ve had a newsletter so I’m a little rusty on writing this column. Many thanks to Jim L(edit) for the tremendous work effort he put into getting our newsletter out on a regular basis. Congratulations (or condolences) to Margaret M(edit) for taking on the challenge of the newsletter now. These two are perfect examples of why our club continues to flourish! We’ve had several matches since my last submission and each has been great fun and a true test of our shooting skills! The new range has proven to be a just about everything we hoped it would be and we’re in the process of making small improvements as the season moves forward. Our mini rainstorm did a nice job of dust control for us and we’re all glad to see the temperatures dropping! Anyone who wants rocks for their rock gardens are welcome to join us before each match and harvest as many as you want to take home. We are now letting our shooters vote on the best scenario of each match and the winner gets to shoot the following match for free! We’ve also given each month’s top four shooters the privilege of designing a scenario for the following month’s match (unless someone else steps up and volunteers first!) We made good use of the 100 yard bay and have had fun with our rifles, even on the shorter bays. October was the last month of 3-gun matches and we’ll start again in May. In the meantime, we’re still running our 2-gun matches. We have all enjoyed the delicious food prepared by the fine chefs from Café Zick so there’s another reason to come out for the matches! We continue to offer training classes for those who want to shoot the practical weapons matches and haven’t shot similar matches or have the necessary training background. We will have a training class after the November match so let me know if you are interested and I’ll make the necessary arrangements. All you need to bring is your sidearm, at least two extra magazines, magazine pouches, about 100 rounds of pistol ammo, your shotgun, 25 shot rounds and 5 slugs, and, of course, eye and ear protection. We look forward to having more shooters join us the first Saturday of the month at 0800 hours. Those who arrive early are VERY welcome, as are those who stay after the match to help put things away. Feel free to send me an email (don@(edit)) if you have questions about the matches. |

From the Range Phil P(edit), Range Master As the fall and winter months approach for our club, I wish to reflect on our past spring and summer. I can only say they were great for club members and for me and my crew of Range Safety Officers (RSOs). The various scheduled evening matches were very successful and our weekend public shooting days/hours proved to be a profitable endeavor. As deer season approached we saw record attendance for both club and public shooters. Those of you that assisted with range maintenance deserve a big thank you for your time, energy and sweat. Thanks again. Improvements continue that relate to safety measures, as we can never be too safe. The July modifications of the range rules, especially the use of the breach flags, have been overwhelmingly accepted. Between our board of directors, range committee, and RSOs, we constantly strive to give to you, our members, a safe facility. Exceptional and noteworthy recognition should be paid to both John E(edit) and Cy M(edit) for their unending efforts to keep our range in excellent shape. Enough for now, more later and remember to keep your finger off of the trigger until you have acquired your target. |
