Junior Division News 2007 by Barbara W(Edit) Do You Ever Worry About America’s Future? I have to admit that I look around at today’s young people and I sometimes wonder if they REALLY understand the basic rights and responsibilities granted to the citizens of the United States of America. Sometimes, I think that the youngsters don’t have to “work for what they have”, that they” take too much for granted”, or “they don’t appreciate the sacrifice of those that went before them” to build this country. On April 26th, at the Dillman Range, during the Club’s usual High Power Match, my eyes were opened and I saw clearly that America’s Future is safe in the hands of Lincoln’s teens. That evening, eight shooters from the Lincoln High School Shooting Team and one member from our own Junior Program came out to shoot high power. These young men were respectful, anxious to learn, anxious to cooperate, and they worked very hard to clean up after themselves (and us). They expressed thanks for the help received from their coaches and they were responsible to put equipment back the way they found it. Safety was paramount on their minds, and I did not see a single safety violation from any of them. You could see that they enjoyed their shooting experience. They enjoyed the company of each other and the company of their coaches. The respect they showed the equipment and the adults gave me pause to think: “American is in good hands now and will be in good hands with the next generation”. |
