Club membership now stands at 890, including Life and Honorary Members. Renewal notices for March renewals were mailed mid-February and should have been received by all members holding membership cards with an expiration date of March 31, 2007. Dues are due and payable upon receipt of your renewal notice and are late if not paid by the last day of that month. Proof of current membership in the NRA is required in order to renew your membership in Lincoln Rifle Club.

If you did not receive your renewal, or have any questions regarding membership, please feel free to call me at (916) (Edit) or e-mail me.

One last reminder – Please be sure to let me know when your address, telephone, or e-mail address changes. This goes a long way to ensure that you will continue to receive Club communications.

It has been a very long time since we have written a Newsletter Article. (Good volunteers are so hard to find these days;-)). With so much time gone by, it is difficult to know where to begin. I guess the best place to start is a status of the Junior Membership and then on to the upcoming events scheduled for 2007.
The Junior Program has seen a small decline this year in membership and we are now at roughly 30 active Junior Shooters for Monday nights. Last year we came very close to 70 Juniors actively participating in the program. With so many Adult members in the Club, we expect that there might not be enough publicity about our Junior Program. Without the continued participation and skills, the future of shooting clubs and the sport would be in jeopardy. The Coaching Staff is devoted to our young shooters with a goal of promoting firearm safety and education with an emphasis on fun. I wanted to take this time to assure you that the Junior Program is still alive and we would like to invite the members to spread the word to keep our youngsters active in the tremendous sport.
Recently, a few of our Juniors attended a Smallbore Prone Match hosted by Yuba City by the Sutter High School coaches, Allen J(Edit) and Ned L(Edit). This event allowed the participants to gain experience in a competitive match in an unfamiliar range. They all had a great time and were very excited about their performances. We hope to host more of these events in the future to further develop the sport and expand our advanced teams for state and national level competitions.
The LRC Advanced Juniors have also had some exciting events recently. They have traveled to Nevada, Yuba City, Modesto, and Red Bluff to compete in air rifle as well as small-bore events. These Juniors placed very high in all of these events. The Best of the West hosted in Nevada, saw LRC shooters Kaitlin P(Edit) and Brooke N(Edit) take 2nd and 4th respectively. Yuba City hosted the USAS State Olympic Qualifiers as well as the CRPA State Air Rifle Tournament. Kaitlin P(Edit) took 1st in the State for air rifle and was awarded the CRPA Golden Bear Trophy. Brooke N(Edit), Kaitlin P(Edit) and Sarah B(Edit) are qualified for the 2007 Junior Olympics in both air rifle as well as small-bore rifle. They will be visiting the Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs this March for the Junior Olympic events. In addition to these top finishes, we are seeing a few other up and coming contenders that have made outstanding progress in recent events. Jacob C(Edit) and Julian R(Edit) have seen their scores begin to soar with their dedication to practice and competitions. There are no doubts that this is a very strong junior team that has great potential. It also helps that they are within 6-months in age and will be together for at least another couple of years as a team. We wish them well going into peak match season, as well as in their preparation for Nationals during the summer.
A newcomer to the Advance Practices and match events is 10 year old Clayton (Edit) who is on target to become a very long term member of the Advanced Team. With less than 5 months under his belt he has already competed in State Air Rifle and Small-bore events with a recent visit to Modesto for a 4-position gallery match. His scores have been rocketing over the last couple of months as his confidence grows with the competition experience. We look forward to his continued success and congratulate him on his progress thus far.
Lastly, I would like to touch on the Junior Divisions recent fundraising activities. We are very grateful for the continued support of the LRC Adult Club and its members throughout the year. We rely on this support to fund the majority of events, equipment and miscellaneous supplies to keep all of out Juniors fully equipped throughout the year. In addition to the regular Junior program at LRC, we also have our Advanced Juniors that represent the Club at all of our competitive events both locally as well as nationally. I order to continue representing LRC at a National Level, the Advanced Juniors need funds to pay travel and accommodation expenses. These expenses can add up to $10,000 per year when we bring 6-8 shooters across the country. In order to meet these financial challenges, the Advanced Junior Teams host a fundraising dinner and solicits businesses and the community for donations. This year, we have set the date for our Junior Dinner as June 1, 2007 at McBean Park. The dinner tickets are $10.00 per person, with Door Prizes and Raffle items galore. We hope to see as many members and friends as possible this year to support these fine young athletes. We would like to get the word out to all members that may be able to donate items for the raffle or just make a donation to the Junior Division. This year we hope to take 5 Advanced Shooters to both Akron, Ohio and Camp Perry to compete in the National Air Rifle and Small-bore Championships. Camp Perry should be a little more exciting than normal as they are celebrating the 100th Year Anniversary of the NRA National Championships. These events offer life long rewards to the competitors and any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support and may your aim be true.
