Text Box: The Range Committee will generally meet at the Indoor Range/Club House on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. All club members are invited to attend.
[Next meeting is 09/15/05]

Your Range Committee is busy putting together next year’s activities calendar. We are requesting input from our membership for any new programs for next year.

We have added a new program this past year that was tested with very good success. Our test program was limited to no more than twenty competitors, with prior experience in this sport. This program will be known as the “Practical Pistol/Shotgun Match” with a series of matches to be held throughout the year. Next year, the matches will include a “Tyro” stage for new shooters to be certified for the competition and will allow as many shooters who are interested and qualify to compete. Additionally, we plan on adding Practical Rifle to the series. Matches include shooting at both paper and reactive (steel) targets, with movement during the scenario. Normally, the matches will consist of several scenarios, currently four, that will test not only your marksmanship skills, but also your tactics in using cover and movement while shooting and loading your weapons. Points are assessed for hits on your target, while penalties are assessed for misses or hits on “hostage” targets and procedural errors.

These matches will be conducted on the first Saturday of each month for the complete year of 2006. Competition will begin at 8:30 AM and should last into early afternoon, depending on the number of competitors participating. Those that are interested in joining the exciting game of Action Shooting should visit our Club’s website, where a complete description, including rules, are posted. If you have a stock or near stock pistol, shotgun and center-fire rifle, you are welcome to join us.

Other activities of the Range Committee include establishing a “Work Day” each month for completing our range projects. This is being planned for the second Saturday of each month, except September to allowing for the Deer Sight-in Day, it will be on the third Saturday, from 8 AM until Noon. This will be a great way for our members to work off their work assessment, plus accomplish the routine maintenance that is needed to keep our facilities in a safe and operational condition. Additionally we are looking for some “shot bags” or similar bags to allow us to restore the worn sand bags at the Dillman Outdoor Range.

As a final note, we will be voting on 6 new members for our committee next year. This is a great way to get more involved with your Club. Members of the committee have a direct input into activities of our club, thus sharing in the direction of the club. The committee members are elected to a two-year term. If you are interested, please plan on attending our November (3rd) and/or December (1st) General Business meeting and put your name on the ballot.

The Club needs members who are willing to volunteer as Range Officer (s) during the public shooting hours on Saturdays and Sundays. Interested? Please contact the Range Committee or Range Master.
