Hodgdon/IMR News March 2, 2005
(www.imrpowder.com & www.hodgdon.com)

IMR introduces two new powders for 2005

Trail Boss: is designed specifically for low velocity lead bullet loads suitable for Cowboy Action shooting. It is based on a whole new technology which allows very high loading density, good flow through powder measures, stability in regards to temperature variation and most importantly additional safety to the handloader.

Trail Boss occupies from 50% up to 100% of available case capacity. A double charge of the maximum loads will either overflow the case or will not exceed SAAMI proof pressures depending upon the cartridge case being loaded. The high load density of Trail Boss will make it very easy to visualize in a case and powder sensors will work more efficiently. The unique appearance of Trail Boss will make it impossible to mistake it for any other product.

Many people wonder how a powder so fluffy with such unusually shaped granules can flow well through a powder measure. Well, flow was an absolute must with the product during development. Powder drop to powder drop consistency with Trail Boss is at least as good as other flake powders. Due to the volume occupied by Trail Boss charges, users of Dillon measures will want to change from their pistol powder charge bar to their rifle powder charge bar for any charges over 5.0 grs of Trail Boss.

IMR7828SSC: (Super Short Cut) is a modernization of an old favorite, IMR7828. The kernel size of IMR7828SSC is 35% shorter than the original IMR7828 but utilizes the same data. This shorter length produces improved flow from powder measures and takes up to 4% less room in the case. In some cartridge cases higher velocity can be achieved using IMR7828SSC than was ever possible with the original IMR7828 due to the ability to get additional powder into the case. Watch for specialized loads specifically for IMR7828SSC which take advantage of the additional powder capacity.

PYRODEX and TRIPLE SEVEN: Hodgdon announces new tests demonstrating that Pyrodex and Triple Seven may safety be used in handloading powder measures designed for smokeless powder.
