Hope everyone’s summer has been fun and fulfilling. School is just around the corner and days are “quickly” getting shorter. Please remember that the shooting hours at the Dillman Outdoor Range are from sunrise to sunset, not 30 minutes before or after. The Club’s Website has a link to the sunrise/sunset tables, so check it before going to the range, if you might be using the Dillman Range around sunrise or sunset.

Our Junior Shooting Team did an outstanding job at the recent Nationals in Pocatello, Idaho. They represented themselves and the Lincoln Rifle Club very well. Many thanks go out to the dedicated coaches, parents and the shooters.

The September Monthly Business Meeting, on September 2nd, is the time to appoint a committee to gather nominations for the elections to be held in December, 2004. At that time, the offices of the President and the Secretary are open for election. I have said I would make myself available for another term, but Julie M(Edit), our Secretary, is not running again. The Nominations Committee members will look for and contact perspective members to nominate for these two positions. In addition, there will be five (5) positions available on the Range Committee. All terms run for two (2) years. If you are interested in serving on the Nomination Committee, or running for any of these positions, please contact any of the Executive Committee Members. I would like to appoint the Nominating Committee at the September Monthly Business Meeting.

The Club is also in need of members with a background in land issues. We have the opportunity to possibly purchase some property next to the Dillman Outdoor Range. I would like a committee composed of members, some with knowledge in the area of real estate, vernal pools and surveying issues. The committee will research the possible land transaction, and make recommendations to the Executive Committee and Range Committee. I would also like to get this committee appointed at the September Meeting. Please contact me if interested.

The By-laws Committee, chaired by Lane B(Edit), is holding meetings on possible By-law changes, so if you have any suggestions, please attend the committee meetings to give your input.

Remember, that participation as a committee member can meet your “Work Assessment ($40)” for the year. It also gives you more signatures on the back of your membership card, towards the special drawing for a scope or like prize at the Annual Pot-luck Dinner for Club members and their families.

We are about to loose the grant money from the Friends of the NRA for the Indoor Range upgrade. We need a few people with carpenter skills to complete the hanging of the soundproofing material. Contact me if you are interested.

Have you got your “Work Assessment” out of the way yet?? Save $40 by contacting Dennis L(Edit) and participating in one of the many projects that need to be completed at the Dillman Outdoor Range during September. These projects range from cleaning out/rebuilding the target blocks, building target frames, checking for dry rot and resealing all the wood items there. Or help complete the soundproofing of the Indoor Range. Then complete and turn in the Work Assessment Validation Form.
The Junior Committee has been appointed and a budget based on a calendar year is in place. The members for this year are:
Kent Dove, Chairman
Lane B(Edit), Member
Rusty M(Edit), Member
Jim P(Edit), Member
Ken S(Edit), Member
Len V(Edit), Member
	Ron W(Edit), Technical Advisor

The Club’s year 2003 Books have been balanced and approved by the Budget Committee. Elections will be held shortly and before you know it - it will be time to renew your membership and prepare for the Annual Awards Potluck Dinner.
Lately the conversation around the Club has been to develop a way to use the Trap more often, especially on weekends. Dennis Lucas has come up with a “Trial Proposal” that will be presented at the next Monthly Meeting.
As I understand it the Trap Machine is priced at $7,000, which is a lot of money to let go to waste! Unfortunately, after looking at the Trap House and Trap Machine on Saturday, I would have to say it has been wasted already!! Again, as I understand it only the Club’s Trap Shooters have access to the Trap House and Trap Machine for their Monthly shoot! When Dennis opened the Trap House on Saturday there was evidence that the Trap Machine had been “throwing broken birds” - broken clay target pieces all over the floor and upon closer inspection the Trap Machine had broken clay pieces in it. These broken piece, until they are removed, will cause the birds to mis-align when they drop down to the throwing arm and then be broken as they are thrown out of the Trap House. Using the brush laying by the machine, Dennis had cleaned the debris from the Trap Machine in about 2 minutes. The floor would take longer as a broom and dust pan or Shop vac would be necessary.
