Jr. Olympics at North Carolina

By Wes (Edit)

I would like to extend a sincere Thank-you to Jim (edit) and the LRC Members who were willing to give support for my trip to Wilmington, NC.  The motion to “pass the hat” on my behalf was greatly appreciated.

As the California Individual Air Rifle qualifier it is an honor to say that I was able to compete, even if my score was below my average.  Out of approximately 200 competitors I ranked about 43rd in the United States.  I wasn’t really happy with my scores because the first day of the competition I dropped twenty points off of my average with a score of 562 out of 600.  I was pretty upset, but I told myself not to worry and I will make up for it tomorrow.  Well, I improved the second day and shot a 573, still 10 points off of my average score.  So overall I wasn’t happy with my performance in North Carolina, but being chosen to shoot with the best in the United States and place in the top 25% is reason to be proud, but yet given a reason to make every effort to improve.

I was able to travel with the 2003 State Junior Olympic Air Rifle Team from Sutter Union High School, with Allen (Edit) as my coach.  It gave me the chance to get to know everyone from the Sutter Team really well.

(Continued from page )

It was not all shooting.  During our time to regroup, we had a lot of fun in the hotel that we were staying at.  We surfed the Atlantic Ocean with boogie boards that we purchased at Wilmington’s Wal-Mart.  When we weren’t doing that we were surfing down the stairs of the hotel.  We also had bets on how many room numbers we could get from the girls at the hotel and fun stupid things like that JJ  We were in North Carolina for a week and we went out to dinner every night.  We went to Hooters restaurant and got stickers and gifts for friends and family from their store, overall just a lot of fun.

I have asked Jim to add these names/business’s to this Club Newsletter Article as a way to recognize and thank those who without their support, my trip may not have been possible:
