Club High Power Match

New shooters are encouraged to come out and join in the fun while learning to shoot better as well. This match is conducted like a practice or clinic for folks wishing to learn how to shoot high power or just coming to keep their skills honed. We will be more than happy to assist you in any way possible, to start your shooting experience on a positive note. Not to mention improving your general shooting abilities and scores. Several experienced High Power shooters are willing to spend time with any new shooter or long time competitor. The match fee is $1.00. Club rifles are available to be borrowed on a first-come basis. Suitable DCM ammunition is available for sale. The ammunition is $5.00 for M1 Garands and $7.00 for FAB-10s.

Starting in April and running through September on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM our Club Match Director will conduct a modified NRA High Power match (setup starts at 4:45 PM).

This means that on the first Thursday the participants will shoot
An unlimited number of sighter shots,
10 rounds rapid prone (10 rounds in 70 seconds),
10 rounds in 20 minutes in the standing position

The next session the participants would shoot
An unlimited number of sighter shots
10 rounds of slow prone (10 rounds in 20 minutes single load)
10 rounds rapid fire sitting (10 rounds in 60 seconds)

Equipment
Rifle: Rifles to be used in High Power Rifle competition must be equipped with metallic sights (Some long range, 1000-yard matches allow the use of "any sights"), should be capable of holding at least 5 rounds of ammunition and should be adapted to rapid reloading. Tournament programs often group competitions into two divisions, Service Rifle and Match Rifle. The rifles currently defined as "Service Rifles" include the M1, M14, M16 and their commercial equivalents. Winchester and Remington have made their Model 70 and Model 40X rifles in "match" versions and custom gunsmiths have made up match rifles on many military and commercial actions. 1903 and 1903-A3 Springfield, 1917 Enfields and pre-war Winchester Model 70 sporters in .30-06 are all equipped with clip slots for rapid reloading. The most suitable rear sights are aperture or "peep" with reliable, repeatable 1/2 minute (or finer) adjustments. Front sights should be of either the post or aperture type.

Also, every shooter gets the opportunity to work/score targets in the target pit at 200 yards.
